MGM Not-So-Grand Poker

Helen sent me to the MGM Grand to play poker this morning.

I arrived at 9 a.m. and immediately took a seat at a $1-2 No Limit game. Some nine hours later, I left a $70 loser. I lost several nice hands that could have turned the tables - my K-high Flush lost to an Ace-high flush, my 3 9s lost to 3 10s, my flopped straight lost to a flush on the river. Any of those hands could have turned me from a Loser to a Winner. Other times, I got good hands, but no one played, so I won a small pot of only $10-15. But that's poker...we'll try again.

One guy at the table, another local, had been playing since 1:30 a.m. and had amassed a stack of $1,000 or so. By the time I left, he had built it to $2,300-2,400 and was still at it when I left.

While I was gone, Helen spent the day on the phone with her sister Natalie and Norm's wife Lorraine. She also did some reading and watching TV.

When I got home, I plated up some Middle Eastern fare - pita bread, tabouli, hummus, lebne and Kalamata olives. No fuss, but plenty tasty.

Tonight Helen's on the phone with brother Norm and soon we'll be watching the NBC comedy shows - Earl, The Office, 30 Rock. There may be a big bowl of popcorn consumed too...

The weeks seem to be flying by. It's almost the weekend again and our adventure is still continuing...
