How Do They Stay in Business?

Today I made my first gaming foray into the green felt jungle that is Las Vegas. About 9 a.m. I rolled into the Red Rock Casino to cash a sports bet that Nick Edson and I teamed up on last spring. We bet $50 each that the Detroit Tigers would win more than 80.5 games in 2009. The $100 ticket paid $174 for $87 each. That's our $50 back + $37 profit.

After getting the cash, I sat down at a $10 blackjack table and stayed for about 4 hours, eventually walking away $60 up. I also visited the poker room and picked up a couple of poker magazines to read when I had a pastrami and swiss sandwich at the food court.

Then I rolled over to visit the Suncoast, the other casino near our apt. This was a nice session, since I won the first three or four hands and was up all the way. At one time I was up just over $100, but settled for a $76 profit when it was time to head home at 5 p.m.

While I was sweating out the card games, Helen was working hard at the apt. emptying suitcases and getting the place in order. It's always surprising how much it takes to get the place organized. For dinner I built us a couple of hefty chicken salad sandwiches, with a side order of feta-olive salad and a crunchy dill pickle. Now we're just kicking back watching some TV, catching up on emails and relaxing. But tomorrow our adventure continues...
