Houston, We Have No Problem

Helen and I rode into Houston about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after two 12-hour days on the road from Michigan. The trip was blissfully uneventful, but it was interesting to watch the gas prices tumble as we headed south. I filled the tank in TC for $2.94 a gallon and along the way the prices dipped as low as $2.49 a gallon in Missouri and $2.64 here in Texas.

Anna and Luis greeted us warmly and Anna had whipped up a homemade batch of chicken vegetable soup with crusty bread that we all enjoyed. Two big bowls for me. Dessert was some of Anna's handmade cookies.

Today I have a couple of errands to take care of - mail two ebay packages and do some banking. Need to get a cashier's check to cover the Dec. rent at our new Shadow Hills apartment. Tomorrow we'll be enjoying Thanksgiving and Friday will be a day of relaxation before we hit the road early Saturday for the next leg of our Vegas journey.

We'll spend most of Saturday driving across Texas. It's a long trek and there is very little west of San Antonio. If all goes well, we'll spend Saturday night around Las Cruces NM, then decide whether to head north to Albuequerue and Flagstaff or to take a more southerly route through Phoenix. Both routes are about the same distance, but I'm more familiar with the northern trip. But that way may involve pretty chilly weather. We'll keep an eye on the skies.

Either way, we should arrive in LV between 6-8 pm on Sunday. The next morning we head to our new apartment and spend Monday getting settled in. That's also Helen's birthday, so we'll need to make time to do a bit of celebrating!
