Helen and I rode into Houston about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after two 12-hour days on the road from Michigan. The trip was blissfully uneventful, but it was interesting to watch the gas prices tumble as we headed south. I filled the tank in TC for $2.94 a gallon and along the way the prices dipped as low as $2.49 a gallon in Missouri and $2.64 here in Texas.
Anna and Luis greeted us warmly and Anna had whipped up a homemade batch of chicken vegetable soup with crusty bread that we all enjoyed. Two big bowls for me. Dessert was some of Anna's handmade cookies.
Today I have a couple of errands to take care of - mail two ebay packages and do some banking. Need to get a cashier's check to cover the Dec. rent at our new Shadow Hills apartment. Tomorrow we'll be enjoying Thanksgiving and Friday will be a day of relaxation before we hit the road early Saturday for the next leg of our Vegas journey.
We'll spend most of Saturday driving across Texas. It's a long trek and there is very little west of San Antonio. If all goes well, we'll spend Saturday night around Las Cruces NM, then decide whether to head north to Albuequerue and Flagstaff or to take a more southerly route through Phoenix. Both routes are about the same distance, but I'm more familiar with the northern trip. But that way may involve pretty chilly weather. We'll keep an eye on the skies.
Either way, we should arrive in LV between 6-8 pm on Sunday. The next morning we head to our new apartment and spend Monday getting settled in. That's also Helen's birthday, so we'll need to make time to do a bit of celebrating!

Heading Back to Vegas!
After a 3-year absence, Helen and I are returning to Las Vegas!
Our journey begins Monday, Nov. 24 when we hit the road for Katy, Texas to spend Thanksgiving with Anna and her family. We'll drive for about 12-hours on Monday, spending the night in Lebanon, MO. about two hours west of St. Louis. I'm using 15,000 Hilton points to stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Then on Tuesday we'll drive another 12 hours arriving at Anna's between 6 and 8 pm. It's a bit of a road grind, but we'll do it.
After Thanksgiving, we'll spend a couple of days with Anna before leaving on Saturday morning for another 24-hour trek to LV. We usually do 12-hours and stay around Las Cruces, NM before heading north to Albuqueque and then west through AZ to LV. But if the weather is bad, we may take the southern route, which takes us near Phoenix, then north to LV. Either way, we have a reservation to spend Sunday night at the Suncoast Casino-Hotel in LV. It's $62 for a handicapped room.
Then Monday morning we head to our new apartment - Shadow Hills at Lone Mountain. The address is 3501 Shady Timber St., Apt. 1043, Las Vegas NV 89129.
I've made arrangements with a moving company to meet them about noon at the storage unit to bring our belongings to the apartment. It'll be a truck and two moving guys for $130 an hour. Ouch! I'm hoping they can get it done in about two hours.
We'll probably spend the rest of the day getting our place set up and maybe checking out the neighborhood. We're about 5 miles away from where we used to stay. It's further from the Strip, but closer to Red Rock Canyon, a beautiful scenic area.
I'll do my best to keep the blog updated, once we get to LV.
